FLYTE SCHOOL: Convergence of Marketing & PR – Integrated Communication Strategies & How to Use LinkedIn to Grow Your Business (4/10/2012)
Topic 1: Convergence of Marketing & PR – Integrated Communication Strategies & How to Use LinkedIn to Grow Your Business
Driving more sales to your business involves more than just a pretty brochure or a well-designed logo. By analyzing every touchpoint with current and prospective customers, you can strengthen your brand. Creating a strategic plan with your unique brand story as its foundation, you will be able to better target your audiences and engage with them more effectively. It’s called the “Circle of Engagement,” and it’s the new way to think about building your business. It’s no longer about ‘marketing to your customers,’ it’s about “engaging with your customers.”In this dynamic session, Nancy Marshall will talk about engaging with customers, prospects and the media to help tell your story to strategically targeted audiences. She will talk about creating “personas” which replicate the profiles of your most desirable customers. Using the “long tail of the web,” you can target niche audiences that align with your business and build a tribe of followers.
Nancy Marshall, “The Maine PR Maven,” has been doing PR in Maine since 1982 when she worked at Maine Public Broadcasting then at Sugarloaf as Director of Communications. In 1991 she started Nancy Marshall Communications, which today has 14 employees doing integrated marketing communications planning and implementation. Her agency is known for “The Marshall Plan,” a strategic planning process that produces a detailed road map to help companies and organizations reach their marketing goals.
Inspired by hearing Shel Holtz at a meeting of the Society of American Travel Writers in Manchester, England in November of 2007, Nancy launched a blog atwww.maineprmaven.com and has continued blogging since then. Her agency also publishes “The NMC Report,” a monthly e-newsletter on the intersection of PR and social media. NMC is on Facebook and Twitter regularly, and Nancy admits to sometimes getting personally compulsive about FourSquare. Her agency consults with clients on how to use social media to communicate their key messages and build their brands.
Nancy’s talk will focus on building relationships and building ‘tribes’ of brand ambassadors through social media. She is a strong advocate for using social media to complement actual face-to-face relationships, not to replace them. She is also a strong advocate for building relationships for personal and professional growth and sheer happiness in life. Social media starts with the word “social,” and Nancy has centered her life around socializing for personal and professional reasons, both in- person and online.
